What’s new

Improvements to FigStead, newest first. Something not working the way it says? Tell me.

  1. Sell more than figs

Scion wood, seeds, consumables like honey and hot sauce, and fig gear now have their own departments on FigStead, all at a set price.

    For buyers
Shop them from the new tabs or "Beyond the fig tree" on the home page. Food listings show their ingredients and allergens, and you can leave out anything containing the ones you avoid.
    For sellers
Choose what you're selling when you start a listing; each kind has its own short form.
  2. Variety names are checked against known fig varieties

FigStead now checks a listing's variety name against more than 2,000 known fig varieties and their other names, drawn from genebank collections, Ira Condit's 1955 fig monograph and growers' lists.

    For sellers
As you type a variety name, the listing form tells you whether it's recognized and offers the usual spelling when yours is close ("Did you mean Chicago Hardy?"). It never stops you listing a collector's name or a new find.
    For buyers
Listings with a known variety name show "✓ Recognized variety name". It checks the name, not the plant, so if the variety matters to you, ask the seller where the plant came from.
